Early Showers to Clear Up, Another Mild Afternoon

A wave is passing through Southern New England along a stalled front and has generated some precipitation this morning.  This will clear the coast between 7-8 am leaving mostly sunny and temperatures into the 60's.  Winds will be gusty this afternoon and there is another shot of rain tomorrow morning between 5-8 AM.  This is a crazy weather pattern- there is a chance high temperatures on Friday are in the upper 30's.

That is an explosive temperature gradient.  Here is how the upper levels of the atmosphere look right now
06z NAM 500 mb vorticity (NCEP)
This is at the 500 mb level.  There is a huge dip in the west.  There is also a max in Southern Ontario that is driving low pressure near Buffalo.  The jet stream looks like
06z NAM 250 mb winds (NCEP)
That cold will eventually move east (hello Friday) but we will have a nice day today.  Here are the afternoon high temperatures

Winds will be a factor as they could gust as high as 30 MPH.  They will be sustained 14-19 MPH.  The boundary will stay close by New England so another wave of low pressure will impact the region early tomorrow morning.
WPC 8 am Wed surface forecast
The NAM hires likes a few heavy bursts around 5-8 am

This system clears the coast by 930 am.  Wednesday then turns out to be ok, with temperatures in the low 60's in southern CT, RI. The rest of Southern New England is in the mid to upper 50's.  Another burst of rain/thunderstorms is likely Wednesday evening.  Here is the 3 day rain total forecast
WPC 3 day precip forecast
The warmth is having a hard time turning the corner.  Thursday will feature temperatures in the low 50's with morning rain.  Friday will be beyond miserable.  No one likes 38 degrees with a pouring rain.  More on that tomorrow, have a good day.
