A strong area of high pressure in Maine is allowing for below average cold in New England this morning. This will stay in place through tonight before moving east into the Atlantic. A coastal storm will form today off the SE US coast and will head towards New England. This will bring periods of rain to the Southeastern portion of our region. Another front will try to bring precipitation on Wednesday night.
Observations/Short Term Forecast
Frost and freeze advisories were issued along the South Coast last night

This is because the growing season has already begun in these regions. Further north it is still cold but vegetation will not be in any trouble

I've circled the high (blue) and where the low pressure will form later today (red). Here is a look at this afternoon's high temperature

Temps for most will be in the low to mid 50's. Areas right along the coast will struggle to get out of the 40's. Winds will also be an issue this afternoon. With low pressure developing to the south and a strong high to the north the pressure gradient will tighten and winds will gust to around 25-30 mph this afternoon.

By tonight the surface chart is expected to look like this

WPC surface forecast 8 pm tonight |
I think most of New England is spared from the rain tomorrow. The exception will be SE MA, the Cape and Islands. Also here are the overnight lows

It will definitely be all rain in SE MA. If some precipitation breaks out to the NW of this, where temperatures are around 32 there could be a few snow flakes. It won't stick but who wants to see snowflakes on April 23rd? High temperatures will be miserable tomorrow- mid 40's.

It will be warmer on Wednesday, mid 60's for most. I'll talk about that tomorrow.
