Chilly Couple of Days, 70 next week?

So far this spring it has been mainly winter like save for a few nice days.  The trend continues for a few more days before spring like weather starts to take the upper hand.  I still see temperatures in the upper 60's and low 70's in the middle of next week.

Current Conditions/Observations
Temperatures are mainly in the mid 20's (as of 4 am)

The radar is quiet

The streaks are lake effect bands enhanced by NW flow across the Great Lakes.  Here is the surface chart

One more reinforcing cold front will lock in the cold for today.  The second cold front that pushed through yesterday afternoon brought some strong thunderstorms to MA/Northern RI.  Hail was reported in several locations from Bellingham, Franklin, Blackstone, and North Smithfield (RI) just to name a few.

Short Term Forecast
As advertised today is cold.

The jet stream has dug sharply into the Northeast

There will be breezy winds out of the northwest today.  Winds could gust up to 30.  They will be sustained between 10-20 mph.  Skies will be mostly sunny.  Temperatures drop back into the mid 20's tonight before we take Tuesday and repeat it on Wednesday.  I think it gets a few degrees warmer than today, so lets call highs in the low to mid 40's tomorrow.  Winds are still gusty tomorrow.

By Thursday temperatures return to the 50's and the wind relax's.  A storm is beginning to form in the Gulf of Mexico

On Friday we have to watch where exactly this coastal low tracks.  My feeling is that it scoots south and east as it will catch a cold front moving towards the east coast

There really isn't much in New England save for SE MA, the Cape and Islands.  However a slight shift to the west would change things up.  The weekend looks ok. but not as good as this past weekend.  The same cold front pushing the storm just out to sea will reinforce some cold air.  Highs will be around 50 on Saturday and Sunday.

The Silver Lining

This is next Wednesday.  Temperatures are forecast to climb into the 70's for Southern New England.  I would expect close to 70 a week from today.  Usually when we get these warm spells a round of showers and thunderstorms breaks up the party.  That looks to happen Wednesday night/Thursday morning.  But this is something to look forward to!
